Bamboo Basics, part of HVEG Group, recently brought its team together for a day outdoors with a clear purpose: planting trees. In collaboration with the non-profit organisation Trees for All, employees stepped away from their desks and into the field to contribute directly to nature restoration.
For one day, laptops and meetings made way for boots in the mud and hands in the soil. The initiative reflects a broader mindset within Bamboo Basics: commitments should not only be communicated, but also put into practice.
From Fair Friday to the field
The planting day also connects to Bamboo Basics’ Fair Friday initiative, the brand’s alternative to Black Friday. Instead of focusing on large-scale discount campaigns, the initiative centres on creating positive impact.
On the day before Fair Friday and on Fair Friday itself, Bamboo Basics donated a tree for every order placed by customers. Thanks to the support of customers who chose the brand during those days, more than 500 trees were donated in just two days.
Many of these trees have already been planted by Trees for All. At the same time, the Bamboo Basics team wanted to experience the impact of this initiative more directly, which led to the idea of organising a dedicated planting day together.
A shared effort
What makes the initiative particularly meaningful is the collaboration behind it. Customers who support the brand, the long-standing partnership with Trees for All, and the enthusiasm of the Bamboo Basics team all come together in moments like this.
Bamboo Basics has partnered with Trees for All to support tree-planting projects both in the Netherlands and internationally. Through this partnership, trees are planted throughout the year based on customer purchases and specific initiatives such as Fair Friday. Trees for All is a Dutch non-profit organisation that restores forests and plants trees in the Netherlands as well as in countries including Mexico, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ghana, and Indonesia.
These projects focus on restoring forests, strengthening biodiversity, and supporting healthy ecosystems. By working with an experienced organisation such as Trees for All, Bamboo Basics contributes to long-term reforestation initiatives while ensuring that trees are planted and managed responsibly.
Planting trees plays an important role in healthy ecosystems. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, improve air quality, and help landscapes become more resilient to extreme weather conditions. They provide shelter for wildlife, stabilise the soil, and contribute to the natural balance of ecosystems over time.
Looking beyond a single initiative
For Bamboo Basics, the annual planting day is not intended as a stand-alone activity. It forms part of a broader approach in which the brand looks critically at how it operates and where it can contribute positively.
In this context, Bamboo Basics is also currently working towards B Corp certification. The B Corp assessment evaluates companies across areas such as governance, supply chains, environmental practices, and social impact. The process encourages companies to continuously examine how their business decisions affect people, communities, and the environment.
Initiatives like the partnership with Trees for All and the annual tree-planting day reflect the kind of concrete actions that align with this broader ambition.
A growing contribution
Throughout 2025, Bamboo Basics and its customers together made it possible to donate more than 2,168 trees, many of which have already been planted.
While planting a tree takes only a moment, its impact continues for decades. For the Bamboo Basics team, the planting day has therefore become a meaningful moment in the year — a day to step outside together, contribute directly, and see the tangible results of a shared effort.
And if the enthusiasm of the team is any indication, there is a good chance that next year will once again involve boots, shovels, and another field ready for new trees.
